Sidney Community Donor Advised Fund donates to Alan Hartzler Memorial basketball court

SIDNEY, NE — All funds needed to construct a community basketball court in honor of a a Sidney man who spent his life working with youth sports have been raised.

The Alan Hartzler Community Fund announced it recently received a $5,000 donation from the Nebraska Community Foundation’s Sidney Community Donor Advised Fund.

With this donation along with other grants, donations and fundraisers, construction of the Alan Hartzler Memorial Basketball court is now 100 percent funded.

According to a statement from the Alan Hartzler Community Fund, construction on the court in Sidney’s Legion Park is set to begin in Spring of 2021. Once completed, it will be donated back to the City of Sidney.

Hartzler was born and raised in Sidney. He was an avid sports lover and especially loved coaching youth basketball. After his passing, family and friends came up with this idea as a way to honor him.

Although fundraising for the court is complete, you can still donate to the Alan Hartzler Community Fund. Any additional money received will be used to support and foster youth sports and recreational opportunities in Cheyenne County.
