Shelton woman sentenced in fatal Hastings crash

HASTINGS, Neb. -- A central Nebraska woman will go to jailĀ for a crash that killed a Grand Island man at a Hastings park.

29-year-old Ashley Woitaszewski of Shelton was convicted in March of felony motor vehicle homicide. She was sentenced this week to 90 days behind bars and four years probation.

She was also ordered to present a talk in front of schools on alcohol and the effects it may have on students' lives.

The accident happened last August when the car she was driving crashed into Heartwell Creek and killed 37-year-old Derek Lindstrom.

Court records show that her blood alcohol level was above the legal limit.
