Severe weather risk returns in panhandle Wednesday afternoon

The National Weather Service is tracking the chance for severe weather in western Nebraska Wednesday.

Dawes County along with portions of Sioux, Sheridan and Box Butte counties are under a slight risk for severe thunderstorms. The rest of the panhandle is under a marginal risk.

The National Weather Service office in Cheyenne says storms may develop across east-central Wyoming late Wednesday afternoon before moving into the panhandle.

Strong downburst winds and ping-pong ball sized hail are the main threats with these storms.
