Semi-tractor-trailer rollover leaks fuel, injures driver in Banner County

BANNER COUNTY - A semi-tractor-trailer driver was transported to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff by AirLink medical helicopter with injuries he suffered in a rollover on Monday in Banner County.

Authorities say Pedro Castillo, 35, of Cheyenne, was driving a semi with a tanker trailer filled with fuel on Highway 88 near Stegall Road when he left the roadway and overcorrected, losing control of the semi and rolling it and the trailer into a nearby ditch.

Castillo was extricated from the vehicle and transported to the hospital. His condition is unknown.

Highway 88 was closed while a hazmat crew from the Scottsbluff Fire Department cleaned up leaking fuel. Accident clean-up continued through Tuesday morning, according to Nebraska State Patrol spokesperson Cody Thomas. It was expected to be finished by late Tuesday afternoon.

The Banner County Sheriff, Nebraska State Patrol and Gering Fire Department also responded to the scene.
