Scotts Bluff County woman facing federal drug charges

Federal prosecutors have taken over the case against a Scotts Bluff County woman charged with having more than a quarter pound of methamphetamine as well as an undisclosed amount of the opioid fentanyl.

Catherine Gibson, 43, of Henry, was set for a pre-trial hearing in Scotts Bluff County District Court last week, but County Attorney Dave Eubanks says state charges of possession and distribution of meth dropped in favor of federal charges.

Eubanks says federal prosecutors wanted to take over the case, so he was happy to oblige and move all future costs related to the case from the county to the federal government.

Gibson is now scheduled for trial in federal court in Omaha on June 15th on counts of conspiracy to distribute and possession of 50 or more grams of meth with intent to distribute.
