HUMPHREY, Neb. -- The Food Bank for the Heartland hauled in a bumper crop this week, all thanks to a single donation.
The food bank says it received more than 14,000 pounds of corn. The donation comes from Fr. Wayne Pavela.
The organization said Pavela has provided it with sweetcorn for several years.
Fr. Pavela retired from St. Francis Catholic Church in June. He also worked at Scotus Central Catholic High School and Lindsay Holy Family prior to his retirement.
The Food Bank for the Heartland works to provide emergency and supplemental food to people in need in Nebraska and western Iowa.
