The University of Nebraska Board of Regents on May 30 is expected to give NU staffers the right to negotiate a contract with an executive search firm.
The board also is expected to go into closed session that morning to consider naming an interim president for the NU system.
Regents documents indicate that the board will most likely authorize hiring AGB Search, an affiliate of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges. The documents indicate that a contract for $169,750 will be recommended to the board, plus the expenses of the firm, for help in the presidential search.
NU President Hank Bounds announced this year that he would leave his job in August to move back to the South with his family.
Higher education boards typically hire search firms to help them with presidential searches.
AGB would be expected to meet initially with regents, professors, staffers, students and others for input on NU’s needs and the leadership qualities it seeks; create a leadership profile and job description; cultivate a diverse candidate pool; and do reference and background checks on candidates.
The board will meet at 9 a.m. May 30 at Varner Hall, 3835 Holdrege St. in Lincoln.
