Red Cross seeks volunteers to help respond to natural disasters
Omahans Anne Hunsicker and husband Mark worked as Red Cross volunteers in Marshalltown, Iowa, in 2018. “The saddest part is that some of the poorer sections of town were hit,” Anne Hunsicker said.

Natural disasters send people looking — for food, lodging, health care and supplies. Sometimes, victims need emotional support most of all.

American Red Cross disaster action teams are the first to respond when disaster strikes, offering care, comfort and compassion. In fiscal year 2018, according to the Red Cross, the teams responded to 387 cases in Nebraska.

The demand for such services is increasing, so the Red Cross is offering various training sessions at no cost for disaster action team volunteers in the Omaha-Council Bluffs area.

Volunteers will be trained in how to respond in natural disasters and how to best assist victims.
