Plea spreads on social media to support local Vietnam vet who died — supposedly with no living relatives
A Vietnam War memorial was dedicated in September at the Omaha National Cemetery. Stanley C. Stoltz, a Vietnam veteran, will be buried at the cemetery on Tuesday.
A rallying cry is spreading on social media for people to attend the funeral of a local Vietnam veteran who had no known family.
Folks all over the country, including CNN’s Jake Tapper, have shared the public invitation to Stanley C. Stoltz’s interment, scheduled for this Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Omaha National Cemetery.
It’s a plea to do-gooders to come out and support a man who fought for his country. But as it turns out, Stoltz does have living family members.
“Once we did put this out on social media, some family did come forward,” said Mike Hoy, funeral director at Good Shepherd Funeral Home in Omaha. “We understand that one may travel a distance, which is great.”
Stoltz died on Nov. 18 at 73 years old. A public notice ran in the World-Herald last week.
Since then, a photo of the notice has spread on social media. Veterans support groups and individuals pledged to travel to Omaha for the funeral.
Hoy said he doesn’t know how many people to expect, given the wide social media spread of the post.
“The outpouring of support has been great,” Hoy said. “It’s just an honor.” https://twitter.com/CleverTitleTK/status/1066370364614299650?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1066370364614299650&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.omaha.com%2Fnews%2Fmetro%2Fplea-spreads-on-social-media-to-support-local-vietnam-vet%2Farticle_11a80aee-d975-5dec-8bc8-8d8edf3128ac.html https://twitter.com/jaketapper/status/1066419942784999424?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1066419942784999424&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.omaha.com%2Fnews%2Fmetro%2Fplea-spreads-on-social-media-to-support-local-vietnam-vet%2Farticle_11a80aee-d975-5dec-8bc8-8d8edf3128ac.html
