PHS reports just one new COVID case over the last week

CRETE, NE — A southeast Nebraska health department is reporting its lowest number of new COVID-19 cases since before the pandemic.

Public Health Solutions serves Fillmore, Gage, Jefferson, Saline and Thayer counties. The health department says only one person in the district tested positive over the last week. PHS had reported at least two positive tests every week since March 29 of last year.

“Thank you to everyone in our district who has taken the opportunity to become vaccinated, Health Director Kim Showalter said in a news release. “The increase in fully vaccinated individuals is a direct correlation in the decrease of case numbers. Currently, we have (fully) vaccinated 49% of individuals age 16 and over in our district. Now that we are able to offer the Pfizer vaccine to those age 12 and over, we hope to see vaccination rates continue to increase.”

PHS offers walk-in clinics every Tuesday from 10:00 AM to noon at its new location at 830 E. 1st Street, Suite 300 in Crete.
