One dies, several suffer injuries in wrong-way crash on I-80

An early morning crash in Cass County killed a 23-year-old Niobrara woman who was driving the wrong way on Interstate 80. The Nebraska State Patrol reports Ashley Chinana was driving east in the westbound lanes of I-80 at 2:15am Monday when it collided head-on with a pick-up. The impact of the collision sent Chinana’s car into another lane, where it struck another car. The driver of the pick-up, 52-year-old Cary Chafin of House Springs, Missouri, has been hospitalized in Lincoln along with his passenger, 52-year-old Rhonda Chafin, also of House Springs. The driver of the second car, 77-year-old Sandra Mann of Belle Plaine, Iowa, has been hospitalized in Lincoln along with her passenger, 81-year-old Jack Mann of Belle Plaine. The accident remains under investigation. The westbound lanes of I-80 between mile marker 426 to 409 were closed for more than four hours.
