Omaha woman still missing; father of her 3 kids arrested
Camisha Hollis
Omaha police jailed a father of three on Tuesday, the second day that their mother had not been seen by anyone.
Marvin L. Young has not been charged in the disappearance of Camisha Hollis, but a domestic violence investigation has been opened listing him as the suspect, and he is in Douglas County Jail on suspicion of neglecting the couple’s children and disturbing the peace at a police station.
The 34-year-old Hollis was last known to have been at home with her family Sunday night. The couple’s eldest child told police that she heard her parents arguing sometime after midnight. Hollis is devoted to her children and would not have left them willingly, said her sister, Caprice Hollis.
“She would never leave them,” Caprice Hollis said. “She loved her kids with all her passion, anyone can vouch for that. All the hours she worked, everything she did, she referenced her kids.”
Caprice Hollis said the silence from her sister is stark. The two women and their mother communicated daily, often multiple times, whether by phone, text or Facebook.
“I do fear that something’s happened,” Caprice Hollis said. “If she was in a state where she could go for help, she would. She wouldn’t leave us in the dark.”
Police are seeking the public’s help finding Hollis or her car, a red four-door 2018 Hyundai Elantra with Nebraska license plate number VSF 459. Anyone who sees the vehicle or Hollis is asked to call 911.
“We are gravely concerned about her well-being,” an Omaha police statement said Tuesday. The Police Department’s homicide unit is leading the investigation, and officers from multiple units are assisting.
“This case will have resources assigned to it on a 24 hour/seven day a week basis,” the police statement said.
Police launched their investigation after Hollis’ mother, Martha Hollis, contacted them Monday saying that she hadn’t been able to reach her daughter and that the children hadn’t shown up at school. Police and the mother met shortly after noon Monday at Hollis’ home, 5604 N. 57th Ave. There they found the children, ages 10, 8 and 5, alone.
The fact that the children were unattended was the basis for Young being charged with three counts of child abuse by neglect, said Omaha police spokesman Phil Anson. The 36-year-old father also was booked on three counts of disturbing the peace and criminal mischief for damage to a Police Department interview room, police said. The alleged damage was less than $500.
Camisha Hollis processed medical records for Prime Therapeutics in Omaha, her sister said, and was well-liked by her co-workers.
“I’ve been receiving calls all day from co-workers who are upset, saying ‘She’s the sweetest person we’ve ever met. She’s fun to work with, she’s positive,’ ” Caprice said.
“(Camisha) is a genuinely nice person,” her sister said. “She’s someone you want to be around.”
