Omaha woman killed in U.S. Highway 75 crash

An Omaha woman died in a crash on U.S. Highway 75 shortly after midnight on New Year's Day.
Ann Smock, 67, was driving northbound near the L Street off-ramp when her Chevy Spark was rear-ended by a Chevy Malibu driven by 19-year-old Vismar Carmona-Martinez. Smock was transported to the Nebraska Medical Center in critical condition and died shortly after arriving. Carmona-Martinez, who was uninjured in the accident, took a breathalyzer test resulting with .24 blood alcohol content, three times the legal limit, according to Omaha Police Department Officer Michael Pecha, a police spokesman. He was booked into the Douglas County Jail on suspicion of felony motor vehicle homicide.
According to witnesses, Carmona-Martinez was speeding. Speed has not been determined yet, said Pecha. The crash closed Highway 75 northbound at Chandler Road until about 3 a.m.
