Omaha man faces up to 40 years on child porn charges

OMAHA, Neb. -- A 45-year-old man from Omaha is facing up to 40 years after being found guilty on child pornography charges on Thursday.

Timothy E. Caruso was found guilty on charges of distributing child pornography and accessing with intent to view child pornography. His expected sentencing date is Friday, Oct. 8.

The police release said the sentence is “not less than 15 years and up to 40 years.”

In an investigation by the Omaha FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, Caruso was already under federal supervision on a previous conviction of not registering as a sex offender when officials were able to track a photo uploaded to a private board on Pinterest to a Google account Caruso used in December 2018.

More into the investigation, they found Caruso's messages on Pinterest inquiring to trade pictures and receive new ones after losing his collection. They say his search history shows an interest in young girls.

Investigators say the picture uploaded was of child pornography and Pinterest reported it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Not only were officials able to track the picture back to the Google account, but they also found out that the photo was sent from an IP address to where Caruso was staying.
