Omaha golfer gets to chase a dream

BEATRICE – An Omaha golfer who was the top local qualifier for the U.S. Open at Beatrice Country Club, gets to play in the U.S. Open this week.

Carson Schaake, a former University of Iowa golfer,  made it through sectional qualifying and will tee off on the big stage, Thursday… Torrey Pines South Golf Course in California.

Schaake tees off at 2:42 Pacific Time…4:42 p.m. Central…..playing alongside Rick Lamb and Michael Johnson. 

Schaake fired an eight-under-par 64 at Beatrice Country Club, when the local qualifier was held last month.   He then shot nine-under-par, leading seven golfers who locked down tournament spots at a sectional qualifier in Springfield, Ohio.

Brandon Crick of McCook shot a 67 at Beatrice Country Club and also moved to the second stage, but did not qualify at a sectional site for the U.S. Open.  Crick is playing on the Korn Ferry Tour, one step down from the PGA Tour.

Torrey Pines South will play at par-71…7,652 yards long.
