NSP: car hits moose in western Nebraska

GERING – It’s pretty common for drivers to keep an eye out for deer along the roads this time of the year, but how often have you seen a moose run across the road in Nebraska?

A Nebraska State Patrol Trooper tweeted this picture out on Sunday, showing the unfortunate aftermath of when a moose ran in front of a car on Highway 71 near Gering, Nebraska. The moose did not survive the collision and the Nebraska Game and Parks took custody of the animal.

Since there is no hunting season for moose in Nebraska, a roadkill permit couldn’t be granted.

Luckily the driver was okay according to the NSP.

So, next time you are out on the roads, make sure you are staying safe by looking out for both deer and moose.
