NSAA approves 2022 state basketball tournaments to be played on same week

LINCOLN - Both girls and boys state basketball tournaments will officially be held during the same week next winter.

The NSAA Board of Directors approved the proposed schedule on Wednesday, meaning both competitions will take place between Monday, March 7 through Saturday, March 12 in Lincoln.

Teams will either play a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule or a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday schedule with games being played at Pinnacle Bank Arena, the Bob Devaney Sports Center, and select Lincoln Public Schools sites. Six championship games, three girls and three boys, will take place on both Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12.

The change was made due to the University of Nebraska hosting the 2022 Big Ten Conference Wrestling Championships on March 5 and March 6, making Pinnacle Bank Area unable to host the girls tournament as originally planned.
