No one injured in ambulance fire near Bennington

No injuries occurred when a private ambulance en route to an Omaha hospital caught fire Saturday near Bennington.

Firefighters were called to the scene on Nebraska Highway 36 near 132nd Street, said Andrew Kanngieser, an assistant chief with the Bennington Fire Department. The patient was removed from the ambulance unharmed and taken to a nearby hospital by Bennington rescue personnel, he said.

Mechanical issues caused the fire at 5:45 p.m., Kanngieser said. The ambulance appeared to be a total loss.
