New owner keeps Nebraska biking tradition going

Cyclists experience the beauty and friendliness of rural Nebraska on a nearly 200-mile ride. Tour de Nebraska is a five-day annual bicycle adventure for those who enjoy cycling, meeting new people and exploring the beauty of small towns. After participating many times, Charlie Schilling is the new owner and director of the Tour. Although he is very excited about organizing the event, the weather is very challenging. "I am thrilled that everyone is having a great time," said Schilling. "I think today [Friday] the sunshine lifted everybody spirits and I think we are in a good place." According to Schilling, the main purpose of the Tour is to celebrate the best of Nebraska and keep everybody safe. The organization also takes care of meals, camping arrangements, hotels, and provides a support and gear team to assist with mechanical or first-aid needs. "We are primarily a camping tour, so we have outdoor camping and then we also do indoor camping in the various high schools that we go to," said Schilling. The 2018 Tour de Nebraska started on Wednesday when they left Plainview, passed through Neligh, O'Neil, Niobrara, and will get back to Plainview on Sunday.
