New North Platte horse racetrack given go-ahead

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- Plans for a new horse racing track and possible casino are getting the go-ahead from western Nebraska planning officials.

The North Platte Planning Commission advanced the conditional-use permit application for a horse track on the city's southeast side.

Officials with the applicant, North Platte Exposition and Racing, say they plan to build a racetrack on 77 acres of land. An additional 14 acres is available for expansion.

North Platte Exposition and Racing's Brian Becker said the organization plans to build at the intersection of Victoria Lane and East Walker Road.

The planning commission recommended approval of the permit on a 6-to-0 vote. The issue goes to the North Platte City Council next month.
