BREAKING NEWS

PROGRAM ALERT

New facemask guidelines start Wednesday at North Platte High School

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Requirements for wearing a face-covering at North Platte Public Schools are changing on Wednesday – slightly.

Officials with the school district say the restrictions are being lifted starting May 12 and for the last few days of the school year from “required,” to “highly recommended.”

The school district is encouraging students, staff, and families to continue wearing face-coverings if there are any uncertainties or underlying health conditions, if a person is participating in ongoing spring sports, or are if anyone is uncomfortable sending kids to school without them. Moving forward, the district says it will continue to follow strict hygiene requirements for all students and staff.

As of this Wednesday, there are five school days remaining. The school district is excited to lift the face-covering restriction from required to highly recommended allowing students and staff a sense of normality for the balance of this school year.

The district will continue to network with health care advisors regarding COVID-19 and the variant of the virus as they develop plans for the upcoming school year. Over the summer, district leadership will evaluate the spread of the virus and its variants before launching new recommendations for the 2021-2022 school year.

As vaccines become available for younger age groups, the district is encouraging everyone to consider having students vaccinated before starting the new school year.
