MERRICK COUNTY, NE — Authorities in central Nebraska are urging locals to call if they see a man walking around without clothes on.
Merrick County Sheriff John Westman says several people reported seeing a man in various stages of undress east of Grand Island in recent days. On Saturday, he was seen completely nude walking into a cornfield east of the intersection of Gunbarrel and Bismark roads.
According to a Facebook post, deputies, the Nebraska State Patrol and the Nebraska Game and Parks searched for the man for about 2.5 hours but couldn’t find him. During the search, several area residents told police they had seen the man around before wearing ill-fitting clothes, not wearing shoes or fully naked.
Westman says the man is black and may have a language barrier. He thinks the situation could be caused by a mental health problem or drugs.
Authorities are concerned for the man’s safety because of the heat and encourage anyone to call the Sheriff’s Office if they see him.
