Nebraska man killed in Highway 2 accident

NEBRASKA CITY – The Iowa State Patrol reports a fatality accident Monday afternoon that involved three vehicles on Highway 2 near Nebraska City.

The driver of a Silverado pickup, 47-year-old Michael Cox of Ravenna, Neb., was killed in the Fremont County accident.

The accident report says Cox was eastbound where there was head-to-head traffic due to construction.

Investigators say Cox crossed the centerline and collided with the rear dual axle of a semi-trailer and Kenworth truck driven by 35-year-old Nathaniel Pegelow of Salisbury, Mo.

The left front tire came off of the Silverado pickup and a Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 24-year-old Veronica Barreto Rosa of Lincoln, hit the tire.

The Silverado went across the construction area and came to rest in the north ditch.

Cox was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two drivers were not injured.
