Nebraska State Patrol troopers seized more than 240 pounds of marijuana after two traffic stops on Interstate 80 on Thursday.

The first stop occurred about 12:30 p.m. when a trooper saw an eastbound Ford Fusion following another vehicle too closely near Grand Island, the patrol said Friday. A patrol K-9 detected the odor of a controlled substance coming from the car’s truck.

Troopers searched the car and found 75 pounds of marijuana and 2.5 grams of methamphetamine. A 38-year-old California man was arrested on suspicion of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of meth.

The second stop occurred about 2:15 p.m. when another trooper spotted an eastbound Toyota Camry following another vehicle too closely near Lincoln. During that stop, a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office K-9 detected the presence of a controlled substance in the car.

A search of the car revealed 168 pounds of marijuana and a bottle of Ritalin that had not been prescribed to the driver. The 19-year-old from Illinois was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled pharmaceutical.
