Man accused of threatening Council Bluffs mayor gets jail time, probation
Chase Points

A Council Bluffs man accused of threatening to kill the mayor and other city workers has pleaded guilty again and been sentenced to jail time.

Chase Points, 33, was convicted of amended charges of harassment on Friday. He was ordered to spend 30 days in jail and received a suspended sentence of two years in prison and one year of probation, plus court costs, fines and fees.

Points was also ordered to obtain drug, alcohol and mental health evaluations and to have no contact with the victims for five years.

According to Council Bluffs Police, an officer was dispatched to Mayor Matt Walsh’s office at City Hall, 209 Pearl St., on Oct. 3 for an unknown disturbance.

As the officer walked into Walsh’s office, he heard a man — later identified as Points — yelling “You mother (expletive)… you stole my life and my identity!”

The officer escorted Points into the hallway. After being checked for weapons, Points refused to answer the officer’s questions as to why he was upset.

Points was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct.

Walsh has said Points is going through hard times and that he hopes the man can get help.

On Dec. 12, Points entered a plea of guilty to one count of harassment but withdrew the plea later that day.
