Lower Big Blue NRD adjusting electrical camping rates upward

BEATRICE – The Lower Big Blue Natural Resources District will be increasing camping rates at its public use areas, as of May 1st.

The NRD’s Board of Directors has voted to increase electrical camping pad rates from $10 a night, to $20.  Non-electrical pads will remain at $5 a night.

The district has electrical hookups at the Willard Meyer Recreation Area and the Big Indian Recreation area.  The change was made because of the costs of maintaining the ten recreation areas within the Lower Big Blue NRD.

Any surplus funds are reinvested in the parks on items like playground equipment, shelters, picnic tables and boat docks.

NRD officials are announcing that the annual Youth Fishing Derby will be back this year, after a one-year break due to the pandemic.  The event will be May 22nd, at the Willard Meyer Recreation area near Tobias.

A fishing contest, archery shoot, Nebraska Game and Parks Fishery Display, a casting contest and lunch will be provided.   Those assisting the event include the NRD, Swan Five Advisory Council, the Big Indian Archers, Beatrice Optimist club and Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
