LINCOLN — Deb Minardi, who has spent 39 years working in probation, has been named the new state probation administrator.

Minardi, whose career began in Omaha, will be paid $140,000 a year in her new job, which is to direct juvenile and adult probation services across Nebraska.

Minardi currently serves as vice president of the American Probation and Parole Association. She replaces Ellen Brokofsky, who recently retired.

Probation has recently taken on a larger role in the state’s criminal justice system under sentencing reforms designed to reduce overpopulation of Nebraska’s prisons.

More inmates are being sentenced to probation rather than incarceration, and many criminal sentences now include a period of post-release supervision, done by probation officers.
