Lincoln woman, 18, says man scammed her out of $700

An 18-year-old Lincoln woman told police that she was recently victimized by a telephone scam that swindled her out of $700.
The woman told police that she received a call from a man claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service. Police said the man told the woman that she was suspected of committing tax fraud and that a warrant had been issued for her arrest. The man told the woman to visit a “government approved site,” the Kwik Shop at 4400 Cornhusker Highway in Lincoln, to purchase Google Play cards.
Police said the woman put $500 on a money card and called the man, providing him with the card's number. He then told her to add another $200 to the card, police said. The woman told police that she lost the $700 in the scam.
