Parents of Lincoln Pius X High School students were notified Sunday night that a student had posted a threatening message on social media.
According to an email from Assistant Principal Greg Lesiak, the student posted a picture of a gun and target with the message "don't come to school Monday." Police were called, the email said, and an officer made contact with the student, who was out of town.
The student admitted to the posting, Lesiak said, "indicating it was intended as a joke to friends." The officer who investigated the matter did not deem it to be a credible threat, Lesiak said.
"Please pray for all involved in this situation," Lesiak said. "We will continue to work with the Lincoln Police Department on this situation and will take whatever steps are deemed necessary to ensure the safety of all our Pius students."
Because of slick roads, Pius X — and Lincoln Public Schools, for that matter — did not have classes Monday. Pius X Principal Tom Korta said Monday by phone that he was out of town and declined to comment until he could talk with police.
