Lincoln man drives to jail before he’s arrested on suspicion of DUI

A man arrested on suspicion of drunken driving made it easy for Lincoln police to take him to jail.

The 22-year-old man reportedly drove drunk to the parking lot of the Lancaster County Jail, where his vehicle was spotted about 4 a.m. Friday weaving and driving over an island. His blood-alcohol content was .172, Lincoln police said.

Officers found the unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot and were told that the driver and a passenger were in the jail lobby causing a disturbance.

Officers noticed a lump near his ankle, Lincoln police said. One of the officers went to retrieve the item when the man reached into his waistband. The other officer grabbed the man’s arm to prevent him from reaching the item.

The man was handcuffed but continued to struggle, police said. He kicked his shoes off and moved his handcuffed hands from the back to the front. Officers found 15 grams of THC wax and Alprazolam, a drug used to treat anxiety, in his pants. The lump in his sock was $439 cash.

In addition to being cited on suspicion of DUI, the man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance.
