Krist’s campaign held a press conference Thursday to tout the implementation of a law he sponsored that requires the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services to certify private laboratories to test water for human consumption.
Previously the department was able but not required to do so, and the department conducted the testing.
Krist also criticized Ricketts, saying laws generally take six months or less to be implemented and this one took nearly two years.
“Two years is too long to make sure public safety and jobs ... continue to grow,” he said.
Ricketts’ office referred a request for comment to the State Department of Health and Human Services. Spokeswoman Leah Bucco-White said the law “was implemented in an orderly fashion by the agency.”
She said a public hearing on draft regulations led to enough comments that the department held a second public hearing, and that delayed the process.
