Insurance department warns of scam

Someone is trying to sell Medicare supplement health insurance over the telephone by implying that he or she is an employee of the Nebraska Department of Insurance. That person’s misleading wording is deceptive marketing, State Insurance Director Bruce Ramge said Wednesday. The department does not sell insurance, although its staff can answer questions and offer other assistance on insurance matters.
Ramge said people who receive suspicious calls should not give out their information. Instead, take down the caller’s name and number and notify the department’s consumer hotline, 877-564-7323.
