The Indiana man who was critically injured after a pileup on Interstate 80 Wednesday morning has died, law enforcement officials said Friday.

Jason Palmer, 29, of Mishawaka, Indiana, died Friday from the injuries he suffered in a 11-vehicle pileup — nine of which were semitrailer trucks — on I-80 between Aurora and Giltner.

Palmer was a passenger in a Jeep Cherokee that was in one of the early collisions. The drivers of two semis saw that the Cherokee was stopped, the Nebraska State Patrol said. One semi struck the other and then collided with the Cherokee.

Palmer was taken to the Aurora hospital, then flown by medical helicopter to the hospital in Kearney, where he died.

The driver of the Cherokee was treated at the Aurora hospital for minor injuries and released.

Authorities still are investigating the collision, but said winter weather conditions were a factor.
