Hen egg size hail falls south of Morrill

MORRILL - A property owner south of Morrill is assessing damage after a severe thunderstorm dropped large hail and contained gusty winds of 60 mph Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service office in Cheyenne issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Scotts Bluff County at 5:12 p.m. The warning lasted until 6 p.m. before being extended for another 45 minutes. The storm was moving at just 10 mph.

Sarah Hessler lives four miles south of Morrill and snapped two photos of the hail she received on her property. Two hail stones she showed in the photos were two inches wide.

She says she did sustain "some" property damage, but they were still assessing the damage Sunday evening.

Marble size hail was reported in the Scottsbluff/Gering area.

A severe thunderstorm watch remained in effect until 10 p.m. for Scotts Bluff and surrounding counties.
