SIDNEY - A non-severe thunderstorm dropped heavy rain that backed up storm drains around downtown Sidney on Thursday afternoon.
The rain water flowed over sidewalks and into streets. There were no reports of immediate flood damage.
Heavy rain, gusty winds and pea-size hail was observed at Hickory Street Square at 2:20 p.m.
At 2:34 p.m., doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Gurley to eight miles northwest of Twin Buttes, moving north at 35 mph. Wind gusts of 50 mph and half inch hail was being observed.
The National Weather Service reported frequent cloud to ground lightning with these storms.
A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for the majority of the Nebraska panhandle and northeast Colorado.
