Gretna man shot man dating estranged wife, then killed himself, police say

A 52-year-old man shot a man who was dating his estranged wife, and then killed himself, authorities said.
Scott Rieflin of Gretna died by suicide Thursday after the shooting, according to the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office.
Rieflin shot Michael Bartenhagen, 50, of Gretna outside an apartment complex, the Sheriff’s Office said. Bartenhagen was struck twice — once in the upper back and another bullet grazed his thigh.
The two men knew each other, authorities determined, and Bartenhagen had been dating the woman, who had been separated from Rieflin for some time.
The shooting occurred about 8 a.m. in the parking lot of apartments near Highway 31 and East Westplains Road. Bartenhagen was released from the hospital later Thursday.
Bartenhagen was shot twice while sitting in his vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He then drove himself to the Gretna Fire Station less than a mile away.
He was taken to Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy in serious condition.
Rieflin was found by sheriff’s deputies in his apartment at the Northridge complex near 204th Street and Highway 370. He had a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said, and was taken to Midlands Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
