Gering School Board approves applicants for voluntary severance program

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) – The Gering School Board approves eleven applicants at their annual meeting for the voluntary severance package. The Gering School Board votes unanimously to approve the plan back in February.

Gering School Board said the plan is voluntary and gives a financial incentive for early retirement. Faculty takes a certain amount of pay for the years of their service. It helps with the school budget and in the long run saves over a half million dollars.

President of the Gering School Board said these decisions are tough.

“These are people I mean our business is teaching kids and these are the people that have done that,” said Peters. “That’s what their career was to grow our student body and that’s why we wanted to make it a good thing.”
