Fundraiser set up to help Kimball student who suffered burns in accident

KIMBALL, NE — The Kimball community is banding together to help a high school student recovering from burns suffered in a recent accident.

Kimball freshman Derek Kauffman was seriously injured in the accident at school on April 22.

Kauffman was flown to the Burn Center in Greely, Colo., and then transferred to the Children’s Hospital in Denver.

In a letter to News Channel Nebraska, Sharon Westby, a relative of Derek, says Kauffman will need several skin graft surgeries.

An account has been set up at FirstTier Bank in Kimball for those who would like to donate to his family. Funds will go to alleviate expenses of traveling back and forth from Denver, hotels, food and uncovered medical expenses.
