Former Public Service Commissioner, state Democratic Party head Anne Boyle has stroke, is in hospice

Anne Boyle, one of the best known and influential Omaha Democrats for decades, suffered a stroke on Monday and was at home in hospice care Wednesday.

Douglas County’s public information officer issued a press release Wednesday at the request of Boyle’s husband, Douglas County Commissioner Mike Boyle.

The former chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party, Anne Boyle served for nearly 20 years on the Nebraska Public Service Commission. Boyle was first elected to the commission in 1996, and retired in 2015.

The statement from the county said the family wished to share the news about Boyle’s illness but requested privacy.

“Good morning,

We have been asked by the Boyle family to share the following news:

Anne Boyle, former Public Service Commissioner and former State Chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party, whose husband is Douglas County Commissioner Mike Boyle, suffered a stroke on Monday and is on hospice at home. The family appreciates the thoughtful wishes and requests privacy during this time.”
