Fire fighters respond to emergency call at Ideal Linen and Uniform in Sidney

SIDNEY - The Sidney Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at Ideal Linen and Uniform in downtown Sidney around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Fire fighters were seen cutting open an overhead door to access the building and shooting water into the building, while smoke billowed out from doors and building edges. No flames were visible. Crews could also be seen cutting a hold into a garage door on the south side of the building for access. The northwest corner of the building appeared to sustain the most damage.

As of 1 p.m. fire crews were still on scene.

It's the second time the Ideal Linen's building, which stores cleaning chemicals, has caught fire.

According to the company's website, Ideal was founded in Scottsbluff in 1907 as a “Soft Water Laundry.” In 1958, dry cleaning was added and then in 1972, after a major fire destroyed much of the main plant, Ideal branched into a full-blown supply house.

Ideal Linen primarily serves all of Nebraska and parts of Wyoming, Colorado, and Kansas.
