Eviction moratorium ending, Legal Aid calling out

The CDC’s moratorium on COVID-related evictions ends at midnight Saturday and so far there is no indication it will be extended as it has in the past.

According to the CDC website, when the moratorium was lengthened another 31 days last month that was “intended” to be the final extension.

With that in mind Legal Aid of Nebraska, worried about the thousands of Nebraskans still struggling to pay their rent, is emphasizing that renters have other legal rights and rental assistance to get them through.

We’re told tenants can receive up to 12 months of back rent and three months of future rent.

But you’re urged to contact Legal Aid as soon as possible because that money might be shut off as of September 1st.
