Emergency order issued to close child care provider

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services issued an emergency order closing a child care center on Dec. 8. The emergency order means Debra Bodfield, located at 6734 Platte Avenue in Lincoln, can’t provide care for any children other than her own. An emergency order is issued whenever the DHHS finds an emergency exists requiring immediate action to protect the physical well-being and safety of a child in a child care program. The emergency order states the an inspection was conducted on Dec. 7 at the in-home facility. The inspection was based off information from the Lincoln/Lancaster County Health Department that Bodfield had been cited for having too many animals in the home and selling animals without approval. During the inspection, high ammonia levels were discovered, as well as dirty toys, unclean furniture, and carpets stained with cat urine, the documents show. Cats were observed in the food preparation area, and significant amount of feces was found in the outdoor play area. Bodfield may request a hearing within 15 days of receiving the emergency order.
