A driver who led law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase in west-central Nebraska reportedly was shot multiple times at the end of the pursuit, during which the man fired shots at authorities.
The chase, which covered about 50 miles, began Monday morning in Gothenburg and ended at a farmhouse north of Hershey, officials said.
The man stole an SUV that apparently had a trailer attached to it, according to scanner reports. He fled west on U.S. Highway 30 before driving onto Interstate 80.
The Nebraska State Patrol deployed a spike strip , but the man continued west . Scanner reports indicated that the man fired shots at pursuing officers. The Nebraska State Patrol and sheriff’s deputies from Dawson and Lincoln Counties were involved in the chase.
The driver left I-80 near North Platte and may have collided with a vehicle near an intersection with U.S. Highway 83.
The chase then headed north and west until the driver took a road that ended at a farmhouse north of Hershey. Shots were fired, and the driver was hit multiple times, according to scanner reports. No officers were injured.
Gothenburg is less than 40 miles southeast of North Platte; Hershey is about 14 miles west of North Platte.
