With COVID-19 cases once again in the double digit positivity range, Douglas County Health officials are recommending everyone wear a mask in public.
The renewed push for masks follows the CDC’s latest recommendation that in places with high transmission rates—and Douglas County is in the high range—even fully vaccinated Americans should start wearing masks indoors.
Last week as the county surged to a 12 percent positivity rate, News Channel Nebraska asked Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert about the likelihood of a new mask mandate.

According to one report yesterday, the mayor is sticking to her view that no masks be mandated at this time.
On Tuesday, Governor Pete Ricketts said Nebraska will not go along with the new CDC mask guidelines, arguing the CDC and the government need to stop telling people how to live their lives.
