District supports ‘right to speech’ after Ralston football players kneel during national anthem

Three Ralston High School football players chose to kneel during the national anthem at a Thursday night game. The district issued a statement Friday afternoon calling Ralston “a patriotic community” but ultimately supporting the students’ right to free speech. “In this instance, we uphold both the ideal of honoring our nation’s flag and the right to speech, always working to facilitate opportunities for students to learn and grow,” the statement said. The game was at home against Platteview High School.
