Department of Transportation busy with the road projects in the Panhandle

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) -Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) District 5 is conducting some major road construction.

NDOT District 5 said road crews are working U.S. Highway 385 in Morrill County creating southbound lanes to make it a four lane expressway. It will tie into Angora Hill Junction with 62A Link. In 2022 in Mitchell 17 miles of Highway 29 beginning at the junction of U.S. Highway 26 going north will get a resurface. During road projects the emphasis is to impede traffic as little as possible while finishing the road in a timely manner. Drivers need to be extra careful passing through road projects.

“Highway safety is an enormous thing especially with the amount of distracted drivers that we see nowadays,” said Doug Hoevet NDOT District 5 Engineer. “We encourage people to put their phones down buckle up be aware of the road conditions.”

NDOT District 5 said they are in charge of all state and federal highways along with Interstate 80 in the Panhandle.
