COVID cases continue to drop in PHS district

CRETE, NE — The number of new COVID-19 cases in southeast Nebraska continues to decline.

Public Health Solutions covers Fillmore, Gage, Jefferson, Saline and Thayer counties. The health department says 26 area residents tested positive for COVID-19 last week. That’s four fewer than last week and 24 fewer than two weeks ago. It’s the lowest weekly total since only 16 cases were reported during the week ending on August 9.

The region’s positivity rate registered 14 percent, a drop of five percent from last week. PHS says one area resident was hospitalized with the virus.

The PHS risk dial improved but remains in the yellow, moderate risk section. The health department says it is only updating the district-wide risk dial now because there’s not enough data at the individual county level.

Public Health Solutions recently expanded its vaccine program to all residents 18 and older. Officials encourage you to register for a community clinic via the State’s registration portal.
