Community continues to fight vaccine myths

NORFOLK — The Northeast Community College hosted a vaccine information and registration event, Wednesday.

Turnout consisted mostly of students signing up for vaccines. The college has held vaccine clinics on-site before, though this event was mainly to share information and register.

The event was a partnership with the Norfolk mayor’s offices and Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department

Organizer Tom Wiese has been active in representing NCC and helping spread vaccine awareness. Two weeks ago, he helped the Norfolk Public Library host a similar event.

“We’ve got 20 in so far,” he said Wednesday evening, expecting more to show up after work hours ended. “A lot of people are wanting information from Elkhorn Public Health on the vaccines and their effects.”

President of the school, Dr. Leah Barrett, said it was much needed.
