Colorado man arrested after high speed chase ends in Torrington

TORRINGTON, WY — A Colorado man is facing multiple charges after a high speed chase in eastern Wyoming Sunday evening.

29-year-old Willie Zanders of Denver is facing charges of fleeing to elude, felony possession of a controlled substance, driving on a suspended license, speeding and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, a trooper attempted to stop a Zanders, who was driving a Ford F-150, for speeding on Highway 85 around 6:45 p.m. Sunday. Authorities say Zanders did not pull over and fled north on the highway.

Police say Zanders’ truck reached speeds over 100 miles per hour during the pursuit. The Wyoming Highway Patrol notified the Torrington Police Department of the incoming high-speed driver. Torrington PD officials successfully set up and deployed spike strips, deflating the tires of the F-150.

Zanders attempted to continue driving on the rims of the truck, but the pursuit came to a stop after the F-150 collided with an Arby’s sign. Police took him into custody without further incident.
