Residents in a northeast Nebraska county now have guidelines to follow when building culverts on their property, and they will now have to pay for them.
The Madison County Board of Commissioners approved new guidelines for constructing culverts on Tuesday.
Residential driveway culverts will now have to be at least 30-feet long. The requirement increases to at least 40-feet long for Ag driveways.
While county workers will install the culverts, residents will have to pay for them.
Historically, that cost had been covered by the county.
